Overview
Seiryu-den and Shogun-zuka hill are located at the top of a mountain. It is cold place and provides us with extraordinary clear colors.
The night illumination of Seiryu-den and Shogun-zuka hill
Near Shogun-zuka hill, there is a stage and we can have a good view of Kyoto city illuminated. Enjoy the setting sun there.
There is a small Zen garden. It is illuminated as dimly as that of Korin-in temple.
The glass tea house ガラスの茶室
There used be a glass tea house in Seiryuden. It was so popular that I show you it.
How to get to Seiryu-den and Shogun-zuka?
Bus is not available an night. Take taxi. It takes about 5 minutes from Keage station.
#11 Rurikoin temple 瑠璃光院

In 2023, we are not allowed to enter Rurikoin without reservation. Check the top page of Rurikoin website.. (English page is available but we can make reservation only on a page in Japanese.)
Overview
Rurikoin temple is known as the best place to enjoy reflection, or Mizukagami. The temple used to be an auberge. In addtion to the reflection, we also can enjoy traditional Japanese house with beautiful gardens. These years, we cannot visit there without reservation.

The night illumination of Rurikoin temple
The most amazing time is twilight. The autumn leaves grow in the night.
Ruri no niwa is illuminated and we can enjoy the reflection on the polished tables on the 2nd floor. The Illumination of some landmarks somtimes rough lighting but that of Ruri no niwa is nothing but tender and calm. We can enjoy the maple leaves take advantage of the pillars as frame.
The 1st floor, floor is usually crowded many people. On the other hand, the 1st floor is very quiet.
About Rurikoin temple
How to get to Rurikoin temple?
15 minutes walk from Eiden Yase Hieizanguch station.
ATTENTION!!!! The bridge is still missing.
We’ll go to the other side but there’s no bridge.
We take the detour route. It takes about 15 minutes to reach Rurikoin.
In front of Yase Hieizanguchi sta., you’ll find this view.
In the red circle, Kan Zakuras (Sakura blooms in fall) bloom.
From Yase Hieizanguchi station, go up the road and turn right.
You’ll find a bridge (red allow) and cross it. The white arrow indicates the bus stop for Ohara. I took this photo near the bus stop for Kawaramachi/ Kokusai kaikan.
Then you’ll find Cable Yase station. Climb down the slope.
We’ll reach the other side of the station.
Just walk straight. You’ll find people wait in line. The red allow indicates the entrance of Rurikoin temple. The road leads to Mikage shrine. Mikage Matsuri, the most important ritual held prior to Aoi Matsuri.
Very important one. Aoi matsuri doesn’t take place without it.
Mikage shrine is loceated in the middle of a mountain. Don’t go there. BEARS in the area.
#12 Syorenin temple 青蓮院

The night illumination of Syorenin temple
Syorenin is also a Monzeki temple. It is so calm place to visit though it is located Higashiyama, a popular place for tourists.
Syorenin is illuminated in blue because it enshrines “Blue Acala.”

1 minute walk from Syorenin mae bus stop (It is not available at night.)
