Kita Kannnon Yama
Kita Kannon Yama enshrines Kannon, one of the most popular Buddhist Deity in Japan, as Minami Kannnon Yama.
Minami Kannnon Yama
Minami Kannon Yama also enshrines Kannon. On the eve of the parade, we have Abare Kannon (it literary means Kannon runs riot but I translated it “Roaring Kannon” in the video.)
Hashi benkei Yama
Hashi Benkei Yama describes a famous scene any Japanese people know. Benkei wanted 1000 swords. Every night, he fought with passers-by on Gojo bridge and got a sword once belonged to them. He collected 999 swords. The last night, he found Ushiwakamaru. He was a small boy and Benkei was sure he would win but failed. He joined Ushiwaka Maru.
En no Gyoja Yama
En no Gyoja Yama ensrines a founder of Shugendo. Shugendo is a belief on mountains.
On the eve of the parade, we can see Gomadaki ritual.
Koi Yama
Koi Yama has a wooden carp made by Hidari Jigoro. Jingoro is a famous sculptor in Edo period. It has beautiful tapestries.
Hachiman Yama
Hachiman Yama has a small shrine on it. On the Torii gate, there are small doves. They also are made by Hidari Jingoro.
Suzuka Yama
Suzuka Yama is one of the oldest Yama in the parade.
Kuronushi Yama
Kuronushi Yama is based on a Noh story. It has artificial Sakura on it.
Jomyo Yama
Jomyo Yama describes the famous battle in the Tale of Heike.
Ofune Hoko
Ofune hoko is also a ship for Empress Jingu. She is on the way to home after the triumph. Every other year, a draogon on it.
