#2 Unryuin Temple 雲龍院
Only one Sakura tree but…
Unryuin temple is one of the most overlooked places in Kyoto. It is small and cozy temple near Sennnyu in Temple.
In Unryuin temple, we can admire only one tree of Kawazu Zakura. We focus on it and it give us strong impression of “Hakanasa” of it. Hakanasa is noun form of Hakanai. Hakanai is translated as fragile. This “Hakanai” is the integral idea on Sakura we Japanese people have.

Kyoto city bus: About 15 minutes walk from Sennyuji Michi bus stop.
JR West: Kyoto station.
Kintetsu railways: About 20 minutes walk from Tofukuji station.
We climb up a hill and it takes more time.

Kawazu Zakura
The Kawazu Zakura near Ichijo Modoribashi bridge is the most famous one in Kyoto.
On the contrary to Kawazu Zakura in Unruuin temple, that of Ichijo Modoribashi shows us its overwhelming vitality.
Ichijo Modoribashi is not a landmark like Toji or Kiyomizu-dera temple. Visit there on the way to Kinkakuji, Nijiojo, Kitano Temmangu, or Seimei shrine.

Sanjo Ohashi bridge 三条大橋
Kawazu Zakura
Near Sanjo Ohashi bridge, there are 2 small Kawazu Zakura tree. They are small ones and you might miss them. Cross the bridge from east to west. Walk on the left side. If you crossed the bridge, turn left. You can find them about 30 feet ahead.
Sanjo Ohashi bridge is the entrance to the down town. We don’t have any night illumination on Kawazu Zakura but the city lights near the bridge make Kawazu Zakura illuminated. At twilight, feel calm spring night in the bustle of the city.

Kyoto city bus: About 3 minutes walk from Sanjo Keihan mae bus stop, or Kawaramachi Sanjo bus stop.
Kintetsu railways: About 3 minutes walk from Sanjo station.

2019年の様子
先始めは概ね2月半ば頃、満開は一か月後の3月半ばくらいです。昨年は2月17日に開花を確認、3月10日にほぼ満開、引き続き一週間ほど見ごろが続きました。詳細は以下のリンクをご参照ください。
