Introduction
Kinkakuji temple is located near Ryoanji and Ninnaji temple. They are so popular places that many tourists visit there in a day. When we visit Ryoanji and Ninnaji from Kinkakuji, we used to take bus No. 59 at Kinkakuji-mae bus stop but it was abolished in this spring.
In this article, I’ll show you the ways to get these temples.
Now Kinkakuji temple is under renovation.

Bus No. 59 at Kinkakuji michi bus stop 金閣寺道バス停から59系統の利用
Take a look at the map. The red alien is the entrance gate of Kinkakuji. The purple alien is Kinkakuji-mae bus stop and it is not available now.
Now we take Bus No.59 at Kinkakuji-michi bus stop. The red, green, and blue bus stops in the map indicate Kinkakuji-michi bus stops, i.e., there are 3 bus stops called Kinkakuji-michi.
Bus No.59 stops at the red bus stop in the map.
When we get out of Kinkakuji, we can find the green and blue bus stops easily. We can take Bus No.59 at the green bus stop but it doesn’t go Ryoanji and Ninnaji. It is for the opposite direction.
Remember, THE RED BUS STOP.
Get out of Kinkakuji, go straight to the stop light and turn left. You’ll get to the red bus stop in few minutes.
Get off at Ryoanji-mae bus stops (Ryoanji) or Omuro Ninnnaji bus stop (Ninnaji).
By the way, tourists for Kyoto increase gradually these months though COVID-19 has still spread in Japan. Bus No.59 is one of the most crowded routes. So, I’ll show you other ways to Ryoanji and Ninnnaji.
Bus No. 12 at Kinkakuji michi bus stop 金閣寺道から12系統を利用
Bus No. 12 also stops at the red bus stop as Bus No.59 does but it doesn’t reach Ryoanji-mae bus stop and Omuro Ninnaji bus stop. Its destination is Ritsumeikan Daigaku-mae bus stop. Ryoanji is in 10 minute walk from there.
From Yasaka shrine, Kiyomizudera temple, and Gion to Ginkakuji? Take Bus No. 12!
I don’t think it’s good idea to go to Ninnaji by Bus No.12. It takes about 30 minutes to get there!

From Kitano Hakubaicho sta. 北野白梅町駅
We take Randen Kitano line at Kitano Hakubaicho sta.
Take Bus No. 101, 102, 204, or 205 at the blue Kinkakuji-michi bus stop (The blue one in the map.)
Get off at Kitano Hakubaicho bus stops. There are 3 bus stops called Kitano Hakubaicho.
Bus No. 101 stops at the red bus stop, Bus No. 204/205 stops at the blue one, and Bus No. 102 stops at the green one.
Take a look at the photo. It is the green bus stop. It is located next to Kitano Hakubaicho sta. Take Bus No. 102, and you can take Randen Kitano line with no fail.
When take Bus No. 102, We pay the fee in advance. Be sure you have small changes, 1-day bus card or IC cards deposits.
For Ryoanji, get off the train at Ryoanji sta. Turn right head for the temple as indicated in the red line. The red alien is the entrance. It takes about 10 minutes.
For Ninnnaji, get off the train at Omuro Ninnaji sta. Turn right and head for the temple as indicated in the red line. The red alien is the entrance. It takes about 3 minutes.
You can get Toji-in temple and Myoshinji temple on Randen Kitano line.
