The renovation of the floor of the stage started on May, 2020
May, 24th
The renovation of the floor started. We can visit only restricted area. Don’t worry, except the stage, we can visit Kiyomizudera in a usual way.
These days, the temple has few visitors due to COVID-19. We pay entrance fee at Todorokimon gate (indicated with the red arrow.) Ticked booth (indicated with the blue arrow) is closed. Inside of the gate, the sanitizer is available.
June
6th
The renovation is still going on.
Actually, the preparation of the renovation. Anyway, I love the twilight of June. Especially the color of the sky.
The stage prepares for the following renovation.
Now Satsuki season also started. We can enjoy them near Saimon. we are in early summer.
21st
Nothing seems to be changed though it’s been about 2 weeks since the last visit. The red monoliths are visitors. We have quite a few ones due to COVID-19.
July
4th
The right side of the stage is under renovation. The fences are removed. The lumbers under the stage are damaged. They will be replaced.
17th
The stage was removed and we can see the lumbers under it. Some of them is covered with copper plates for strength and avoiding decay.
The view we can see in some 5 decades!
Gion Matsuri 2020
Gion Matsuri was carried on in an abbreviated way because of the aim of the festival is to get rid of epidemics. Check the link below.
August
1st
Yesterday, Gion Matsuri was finished. For Kotoites, late summer has started in the clear blue sky. The stage is covered of sheets but the replacement still goes on.
Every single year, Kiyomizudera welcomes us with beautiful ringing in this season.
5th
The stage is still under the sheet. Daikoku-san is still in the unusual place.
The renovation of Kinkakuji started. Now 2 iconic place in Kyoto is under renovation.

Seiryue is on 14th and 15th.
15th
The night illumination of 2020 started. Nothing seems to be changed in the stage. I’m not sure when the renovation ends.

28th
The renovation of the left side of the stage started.
We can be on the right side in the restricted way.
In the East Wing of the main hall, there are lumbers for the replacement.
Such a sunset. It’s a typical one in early fall.
